ALL ABOUT ALA

More than a gallery, we’re a project aimed at catapulting emerging Latin American talent into the spotlight, all while modernizing the way the art world operates.

Each of our exhibits has a hybrid digital/physical presence and exclusively stars work by Latin American artists. These can be purchased online or at one of our pop-up events.

Through periodic exhibits, we strive to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and connection between artists (emerging and mid-career), collectors (new and established), and viewers.

Beyond highlighting art from this region, we bring together Latin American curators, vendors, musicians, and more, turning each exhibit into a celebration by and for the community.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Curator and founder of ALA Projects, Amanda Garcia, was born in Miami to Cuban parents, and moved around a bit before settling in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Passionate about both art and social sciences, she pursued both politics and fine art studies at Smith College & The New School. She then pursued an MA in Urban Governance from Sciences PO Paris. While working as a sustainability consultant in Paris, she sketched out the initial “bones” of what would later become ALA Projects, revisiting and refining it over the past few years.

After seven years in France, she decided to switch gears and pursue a second MA in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She began prepping her business plan while working as Gallery Coordinator at Leon Tovar Gallery, and officially launched ALA Projects in March 2024.

Her dual backgrounds in social science and art inform her interdisciplinary curatorial approach, with a particular focus on conceptual artists whose works challenge, question, and empower underrepresented communities. Through ALA, she hopes to spotlight Latin American and diaspora artists, and ultimately, lead to a more inclusive and accessibile art world.
