LUCA OTAMENDI

1994, Caracas

Raised by a family of musicians, Luca’s practice embarks on a multisensory journey through the realms of sound and vision.

  • With a formal education in Fine Arts from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and Graphic Design from the Caracas Design Institute, Otamendi draws profound inspiration from geometric abstraction, architecture, and the optical and kinetic art movements pioneered by artists from his homeland.

Amid Venezuela's turbulent sociopolitical climate, Otamendi was compelled to relocate to the United States in 2019. Since then, his work has seamlessly combined the precision of graphic design with the fluidity of musical rhythms, employing playful color palettes that reflect his unique experience as a synesthete or chromesthete. This cross-activation of sensory pathways informs his creative process, where sound and color intersect to create dynamic and immersive visual expressions.

Otamendi’s artistic investigation explores a fascinating duality—his works are both precise and ethereal, geometric and organic, pastel-hued yet vividly bold. Through this synthesis, he creates compositions that challenge conventional boundaries, inviting viewers to experience the world through his lens of sensory interplay.

Otamendi’s work has been exhibited twice with ALA Projects: during “Act I: The Showcase” in May 2024 in New York City and at the Open House Gallery in Miami in December 2024. The artist currently lives and works in Miami.
