Camino II, 2024

Acrylic on canvas

24 x 24 in.

The ethereal, pastel color palette in Luca’s pieces, evokes a cheerful childhood in a land almost fading — together with his recollection of it. As an immigrant facing the complexity of relocation and the rerouting of his life, he has not been able to return to his home country. His memories, spaces, and sense of place have been shuffled, like so many of the country’s landscapes have evolved or been replaced, recreated entirely. Through this series, Luca investigates identity-making when the scaffolding necessary to forge one’s sense of self, is in constant flux and increasingly distant. In a departure from his graphic design background and geometric familiarity, the artist experiments with organic shapes better suited to depict his memories relived through sounds, to ensure these endure.
